Phil Burgess:  Kati tell us a little about yourself?

Kati Luoto: I’m a 40 years young, Strongwoman, Mother and Grandmother.

I’m 172cm tall and weigh 86kg.

I have 3 sons and 4 grandchildren, and I have been working at the gym for over 10 years.

I love reading books, swimming and walking in nature.

Phil Burgess:  Where are you from?

Kati Luoto:   I was born in Helsinki, but for the last 5 years I lived in Vantaa, its the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Finland is beautiful country of lakes. We have so many nice places to go that I cant begin to describe them.

Phil Burgess: You recently won 2013 Finland’s Strongest Woman, is this the first time you have won this competition? And how have you gone in other international strongwoman events?

Kati Luoto:  I won Finland’s Strongest Woman contest for the 7th time, a few weeks ago.

I also won Scandinavian Strongest Woman competition. In the World’s Strongest Woman contest my best result is 3rd in 2008.

Phil Burgess: What is your favourite strongwoman event?

Kati Luoto:   I think log lift and farmers walk.

Phil Burgess: You have an impressive log lift, what is your best lift and what tips can you give?

Kati Luoto: My best lift in log is 110kg in training

The front squat and narrow grip bench are my secrets to log lift.

Phil Burgess:  Are the number of strongwomen competitors in Finland increasing? and are there more events than there was a few years ago?

Kati Luoto:  Unfortunately no…when I did my first Finland Strongest Woman competition in 2003 there was 19 competitors.

For the last few years there were 8-12, with always 6 events in one day ,but now the events are heavier and I think that’s great even though there are less girls.

Phil Burgess: What is the next big event you will be competing in and how do you think you will go?

Kati Luoto:  World’s Strongest Woman 2013 in Helsinki, Finland on November 8th.

I hope I’m in the top 3.

Phil Burgess: What do you love the most about being a strongwoman competitor?

Kati Luoto:   I love that feeling when I’m competing! Although I’m really nervous before a competition 😀

I have to have some goal to train so I have motivation to do the hard work.

Phil Burgess: Who inspires you the most in the sport of strongman/strongwoman?

Kati Luoto:   Anna Rosen and Jill Mills are my favourite strongwomen.

Phil Burgess: Finally what is the best piece of advice you have been given in the sport of strongwoman?

Kati Luoto:  You must learn techniques first, then train hard and remember to be humble!……..
